Dear Dr. Kroll and other forum members,

Hello, my name is Robert Heffern. I am a researcher at UCLA working with small accelerometers for vestibular neuroscience. That's a fancy way of saying your sense of balance. We purchased some of these guys: http://www.femtoduino.com/spex/femtoduino-ble . We are hoping to get them to echo out sensor data coming in from some sparkfun accelerometers (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10121). We have the system working with another arduino setup, complete with bluetooth integration (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10253). We are hoping to use the femtoduinos, as they are much lighter.

The femtoduinos have a BLE113 on them. I'm having a bit of problems with them and in getting them to become 'discoverable' to other bluetooths. Honestly, I don't know much about bluetooths and was told you all were experts. I don't expect much help, but to borrow from the older films: 'you're my only hope.'

I can upload to the arduino, and I see data back on the USB serial port. I am using the examples and libraries from here: https://github.com/jrowberg/bglib/tree/master/Arduino . They were recommended by the manufacturers as a great starting resource. I don't know if they are.

If you know of any good resources or good people, I would love to hear about them. Thank you for any and all information, I appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Robert Heffern

Hello Robert,
as far as I know, it you are using BGLib and the the examples delivered with it you can discover peripherals, connect and interact with them but the device using BGLib, cannot be discovered since it does not provide a GATT.

I have not used BGLib that much yet, since I was writing firmwares for specific purposes directly for a particular peripheral.

Cheers,
Michael.

Dear Dr. Kroll,

Thank you very much. If you know of a way to get a BLE113 to have a GATT, I would love more information on it. Otherwise, if you know of any small, light, 5V-ish mircocontrollers that 'play well' with bluetooth, I am all ears. Thank you very very much for the help and the consideration, I really do appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Robert Heffern

Hi Robert,
I have no idea how the femtoduino guys plan to support this.
Maybe you ask them directly since I have not yet played around with it and not that much experience with BGLib yet.

Cheers,
Michael.
