Does the BLEBee require the target phone to have support for Bluetooth Low Energy? (If so I guess my Safecast bGeigie Nano will have to continue to communicate with an iPad2 through the audio cable, until I upgrade phone or tablet to a BLE enabled device.)

Hello,
yes correct. The iPad2 is not yet BLE enabled. Iy you will update your bGeige Nano to use the BLEBee you would need a BLE capable iOS device starting with the iPhone4S or the iPad3 or an Android Device with OS v4.3+.

Cheers,
Michael.

Thanks, the mini iPad also has BLE and it's less expensive compared to iPhone.

BTW In parts options section, in the current draft of Nano Operation Manual, https://github.com/Safecast/bGeigieNano ... ion-Manual

>Data transfer is via the micro SD card, via the audio cord to geiger bot iOS app, or, as additional option there is since Oct 2013 a wireless data transfer option. See the BLEBee v1.0.0 breakout board http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/blebee ... -1632.html and the iOS app BLExplr https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blexplr/id524018027 designed by Dr. Michael Kroll. Also see http://www.mkroll.mobi/?page_id=1070 ; and the BLEBee product forum http://forum.mkroll.mobi/. Although BLE can talk to any Bluetooth 4.0, the BLExplr iOS apps work only in BLE-enabled apple devices. (Similarly the Safecast Geigerbot is only in iOS.)<
