I am a total beginner to arduino, but really interested in bluetooth LE for a connected device I want to make.

I want to have a go at making the shield, will this firmware supplied with this chip (linked below) work with your shield:

What is the component on the schematic that has a label VCCA VCCB?

Thanks so much,

Ben

Hi Ben,
i don't know what V1 stands for, but the module is the right one. From the picture I can tell you that this is the one with integrated chip antenna that is assebled on my boards as well.

The part you are mentioning is a "4-Bit Bi-directional V-Level Translator". Texas Instruments TXB0104DR.

I will update the schematics soon and add the name U3 to it.

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Michael,

Thank so much - found the components. I will have a go at putting one together.

Hi mIchael,

I'm willing to control Arduino using BLE with iPhone, and I'm glad I found your work on this shield, I think it will be really really helpful. But I have a few questions before I try to make it myself.

First, is the BLE112 DevKit needed to flash the firmware, or is the TI CC debugger enough ?
Second one: Where are you in your process of making the shield available for everyone ? Or, to say it an other way, when do you think it will be possible to command you one ?

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

in order to flash the firmware, the CC debugger is enough.
I'm working on moving the BLE Shield as a Kickstarter project right now.
The description is already finished. Need to proofread everything and create the video over the weekend.

I decided to go this way, since it seems that the demand for shields is higher as I can afford to pay upfront for the production.
This way I will get a valid number on how much shields needs to be made.

I'll post the link to the project once it is setup.

Cheers,
Michael.

I read about this already, but thanks for the hint.
One more reason to create a kickstarted out of it.

Cheers,
Michael.

That one's OK, but using the BLE112 does mean you can put your own firmware on the BLE112 as well. So, it's actually possible to have something running on just the BLE112, with no Arduino required!

That's what I was thinking as well. Both shields will have their pros and cons.

Michael,
Thanks for your great work on the BLE Shield.
I have built a BLE Shield on my own using your Eagle files and firmware v0.9.3.
It is working great!
Attached is a picture of my setup and BLE Shield with the Arduino.

Thanks,
Daniel
